Back loads 2021
These are the 3 return loads we advertised during 2021, as they were written at the time. Each one was a lorry finishing a job away from home with an empty bed and a journey to make anyway. Nothing here has been reworded.
Every line below started life as a note from the traffic office saying a vehicle was going to be empty. That is all a back load listing ever is, and it is the reason the wording is as plain as it is.
How an empty lorry gets advertised
A back load starts when a job finishes. A driver clears his delivery, the office knows where he is and when he will be moving, and the space on the way home goes on a list rather than going to waste.
Whoever takes it gets a much lower price than a dedicated journey, because the journey has already been paid for by the job that created it. In return they take the vehicle’s timetable rather than their own, and that is not negotiable — the lorry is coming home whatever happens.
Ours are hiabs and artic flatbeds, which means the crane travels with the load. A back load into somewhere with no plant on site is a normal day rather than a problem to solve.
