Cabin Fitter / Plumber
A plumber who can fit out the inside of a portable cabin, from the kitchen and shower to the water test at the end, in our refurbishment workshop at Miles Platting.
What the job is
The cabin workshop is the other half of what happens at Miles Platting. Portable cabins and modular units come into the yard worn out and leave it fit to stand on a site again: stripped, repaired, re-plumbed, refurbished and repainted. Some are our own hire and sale units. A good number belong to customers who would rather send a unit to us than buy a new one.
We need a plumber who can fit out the inside of one. Kitchens, toilets, showers, sinks, the pipework behind all of it, and the water test at the end that says the unit is right before it goes anywhere near a lorry.
It is a workshop job with variety in it rather than a production line. No two units arrive in the same state, a fair number are bespoke builds to a customer’s drawing, and everybody in the workshop turns their hand to whatever the unit in front of them needs that day.

- Monday to Friday 7.30am to 4.30pm, overtime and Saturdays available

- Negotiable, depending on experience — the actual figure depends on your licence, your qualifications and your experience, and we would rather discuss it with you than publish a bracket

Day to day
- Fitting kitchens, toilets, showers and sinks into cabins and modular units
- First and second fix pipework inside the unit
- Water testing, and putting right whatever the test finds
- Servicing and repair on units coming back off hire
- General fit-out work alongside the rest of the workshop team
The person
- Sound practical plumbing experience: kitchen, toilet and shower installations
- Confident carrying out water tests and signing a unit off
- Your own full set of tools
- Full UK driving licence
- Good physical condition and stamina, because it is workshop work
- Happy to turn your hand to other jobs in the workshop
If the qualification is what is missing
The plumbing has to be there already. Everything that is particular to cabins, meaning how a unit is put together, what comes out and what goes back, and what a customer expects to see when it lands on their site, is learned here. We expect to teach it rather than expect you to arrive knowing it.
The workshop takes on bespoke builds, external customer refurbishments and the servicing of our own hire and sale units, so the job in front of you changes week to week.
