Meet the Team

A small office, and the same people on the phone and the email year after year. These are the ones you are most likely to deal with.

The office

Who you will be dealing with

Keith Robinson, Transport Manager at Nortons Hiab Services, at his desk in the Manchester traffic office
Transport Manager

Keith Robinson

Plans the vehicles, signs off the vehicle schedule and is usually the person who decides which unit goes to your job. If you have asked us whether a lift is a job for a rigid or an artic, the answer came from Keith.

Karen Thompson, Accounts Manager at Nortons Hiab Services, in the Manchester office
Accounts Manager

Karen Thompson

Handles invoicing, trade accounts and credit applications. If you want to put the work on account rather than settle job by job, Karen is who you will be speaking to.

Angus Quinn, Transport and Cabins Manager at Nortons Hiab Services, at Accrington Stanley Football Club
Transport and Cabins Manager

Angus Quinn

Transport and cabins. Alongside the haulage side he looks after the cabin work, which covers both moving portable cabins for clients and the used cabins we sell out of the Manchester yard.

On the road

The drivers and operators

The person who turns up is the person who works the crane. Our driver / operators drive the wagon, set it up and make the lift, so there is no waiting on a second vehicle or a separate crane crew to arrive.

Most are ALLMI trained and CPCS qualified, with continuous skills training. Several hold Rail Track PTS and we are LINK UP members for safety critical sites. The cranes are worked by remote control, so the operator stands where they can actually see the load rather than sitting in a cab looking at it side-on.

Staff retention here is among the highest in the industry, which is why clients on ongoing work tend to see the same faces week after week.

Safety, planning and the paperwork

We have a NEBOSH qualified health and safety officer and our own appointed persons. We can supply lift plans and risk assessment method statements, generic or written around your site.

The wagons are our own rather than hired in, and we invest in new ones continually rather than running trucks into the ground, which is why the 32 and 44 tonne trucks are Euro VI and clean air zone compliant.

Common questions

The team, answered

Who will I actually be dealing with?

A small office in Miles Platting, Manchester. Keith Robinson is our Transport Manager, Angus Quinn looks after transport and cabins, and Karen Thompson runs accounts. You are not going through a call centre and you will generally speak to the same people.

Who do I email about an invoice or a trade account?

Karen Thompson handles invoicing, trade accounts and credit applications. Email the office and it will reach her.

Who decides which lorry comes to my job?

Keith Robinson. He plans the vehicles and signs off the vehicle schedule, so the decision on whether your lift needs a rigid, an artic or a wagon and drag is made in the office before anything is booked.

Will I get the same driver on ongoing work?

Usually, yes. Staff retention here is among the highest in the industry, which is why clients on ongoing work tend to see the same faces.

Are your drivers trained to operate the crane?

Most of our drivers and crane operators are ALLMI trained and CPCS qualified, with continuous skills training. Several driver / operators also hold Rail Track PTS, and we are LINK UP members for safety critical sites.
