What it is
The one that covers most jobs
A Volvo eight-wheel rear-steer rigid at 32 tonnes gross, carrying a HIAB X-HiPro 558 EP-5 loader crane rated at 49.7 tm with Automatic Duty Control. Euro VI, like the other 32 and 44 tonne wagons.
Five boom sections and 14.5 m of outreach cover the great majority of what a hiab is actually asked to do: a cabin off the bed and onto a base, a pallet over a wall, a machine into a yard. The crane weighs 4,562 kg without its legs, which is well under two tonnes lighter than the 858 — weight that goes back into the payload.
If the reach or the weight is beyond it we will tell you and put the job on the 855 or the 858 instead.

Why hire the 558 rather than the 858?
Cost and availability, mostly. If your lift sits inside the 558 chart there is no advantage in sending a bigger crane, and the smaller unit is more often free at short notice. It is the same 32 tonne eight-wheel chassis underneath, so access is identical.
What will it lift?
With ADC engaged, 10,800 kg at 4.6 metres, 5,700 kg at 8.3 metres and 3,150 kg at its full 14.5 metre radius. Without ADC, 10,600, 5,300 and 2,900. The full chart is on this page.
How does it compare with a five-section crane elsewhere?
The 558 EP-5 X-HiPro is a five-section crane rated at 49.7 tonne-metres with ADC. That is more than most machines carrying a bigger-sounding model number, which is the whole reason we publish charts rather than names.
Is it suitable for site cabins?
For most single units, yes. A standard 32ft by 10ft anti-vandal cabin is comfortably inside the chart at normal set-down radius. Tell us what the unit is and where it has to go and we will confirm before you book.
Does it come with a driver?
Yes. Every vehicle we hire out goes with a Nortons driver / operator, most of them ALLMI trained and CPCS qualified. We do not hire cranes without a driver / operator.
