Privacy and cookie policy
Short version: we collect what you send us on a form, we use it to answer you, we do not sell it, and the only cookies this site sets are the two it needs to work. We do count visits — with our own copy of Matomo, on our own server, configured to set no cookies at all.
Who we are
Nortons Hiab Services Limited, registered in England and Wales under company number 06140715 and trading as nortonshiabservices.co.uk, is the data controller for the information described below. What we collect, and why
- Contact and quote forms
- Your name, email address, telephone number, company name where you give one, and whatever you write in the message. We use it to answer your enquiry and, if it becomes a job, to carry out the work. Lawful basis: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
- Photographs you upload
- The quote form accepts up to five photographs of the load or the access. We use them to work out which vehicle to send. Please do not upload anything that identifies people; we do not need it and we would rather not hold it.
- Your IP address
- Recorded against form submissions in our database as a spam control. It is never included in the email we receive. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in preventing abuse of the forms.
- Server logs
- Our hosting keeps standard web server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and diagnostics.
Every cookie this website sets
Two, and both of them are strictly necessary. They are listed in full below, which is the same list the cookie banner itself shows you.
We use analytics — Matomo, self-hosted — and it is configured to set no cookies at all. So this website sets no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies of any kind. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no embedded map, no chat widget and no social media button that phones home. Nothing on this site builds a profile of you or follows you to another website.
Strictly necessary cookies
These make core parts of the website work. The site cannot be used properly without them, so they are set without asking and there is nothing to switch off.

Matomo — how we count visits, without cookies
We use Matomo to see which pages people read and which searches bring them here. It runs on our own server at nortonshiabservices.co.uk/stat/ rather than on somebody else’s, so the figures are not shared with an advertising company, sold, or combined with data from other websites. Nothing about your visit leaves this domain.
It is configured to set no cookies. That is why it does not appear in the table above and why the banner does not ask you about it: there is nothing stored on your device to ask about. Without a cookie it cannot recognise you on a later visit or follow you anywhere, so what we get is counts of pages rather than a picture of a person.
Your IP address is used momentarily to work out roughly which part of the country a visit came from, and is anonymised rather than stored in full. If you would rather not be counted at all, the Do Not Track setting in your browser is honoured.
Cookies we do not set
The cookie banner lists a targeting category because that is how the banner is built. It is empty, and it stays empty. We set no performance, functionality, analytics or targeting cookies — Matomo runs without any — so accepting or rejecting that category makes no difference to what is stored on your device.
Video, and the only third party on the site
Our videos page shows still pictures until you press play. Nothing is requested from YouTube before then — no script, no thumbnail, no connection at all — so YouTube can set nothing while you are only looking at the page.
When you do press play, the video is loaded from youtube-nocookie.com, which is YouTube’s Privacy Enhanced Mode. YouTube may then set cookies on its own domain to play the video. Those are Google’s cookies rather than ours, we cannot read them, and they are covered by Google’s own privacy policy. If you would rather that did not happen, do not press play.
How to change your mind
Where the cookie badge is showing on the page, clicking it reopens the banner so you can change your answer. You can also delete cookies and block them entirely in your browser settings — every browser has this under privacy or site settings. Blocking the session cookie will stop the contact and quote forms from submitting, because the security token has nowhere to live.
Who we share it with
Nobody, other than the suppliers who make the website work: our hosting provider, which stores the database and the files, and the email service that carries the message to us. We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and we do not pass it to marketing companies.
We will disclose information where we are legally required to, for example in response to a lawful request from the police or a regulator.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become work are kept while they might still be relevant and then deleted. Records relating to work we carried out are kept for as long as we need them for accounting, insurance and legal purposes — ordinarily six years from the end of the financial year the work fell in. Uploaded photographs are deleted once the enquiry is closed.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to give you a copy of the information we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, restrict what we do with it, or object to us using it. You can also ask for it in a portable format.
Email info.nospam@nortonshiabservices.co.uk and we will deal with it. We may need to check who you are before we act on a request. There is no charge and we will respond within one month.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Form submissions are protected against cross-site request forgery, uploads are checked and stored outside the web root, and access to the database is restricted.
Links to other sites
Where we link to another website — including our own cabin sales site — that site has its own privacy policy and its own cookies, and we are not responsible for either.
Changes
If we change what we collect, what we do with it, or which cookies the site sets, this page changes at the same time. It was last reviewed in September 2026.
Trade marks
Load handling equipment manufacturers and their logo such as HIAB and the HIAB logo are registered trademarks. Nortons Hiab Services Ltd is not associated or affiliated with HIAB or other load handling equipment manufacturers, and expressly disclaims any and all rights to any such marks.
