What it is
The workhorse rigids
Scania eight-wheel rear-steer rigids at 32 tonnes gross, each carrying a HIAB 855 E-8 HiPro loader crane with eight boom sections and 19.4 m of hydraulic outreach.
In day-to-day work these are interchangeable with the 858 units. Both lift over 8 tonnes and carry up to 5.5 tonnes, so the decision between them comes down to which is free on the day rather than which is stronger.
Between the 855s and the 858s we can put more than one heavy rigid on the same job, which is how dual lifts and phased site set-ups get done in a single visit.

Where the 855s get sent
Vessels into working plants
Tanks and process vessels lifted in among live pipework and silos, where the set-up area is whatever is left between them.
Under a canopy, into an opening
Units set down under overhangs and through openings, where the height available decides the lift as much as the weight does.
Panels and sections over a fence line
Wall panels and sections taken over hoarding and set down inside the working area.
Long, light and awkward
Timber pods, frames and long sections that weigh very little and take up a great deal of room, run out on a wide load marker board.
Eight sections of boom
A long, thin boom reaches further at low weight, which is what a cabin or a panel actually needs.

The ground matters more than the crane. An 855 on full stabiliser span puts roughly 220 kN through one leg. On soft cohesive ground that needs a spreader pad 2,346 mm square; on asphalt, 1,049 mm. The full DIN 1054 table for this crane is published on the lifting capacity page.

What is the difference between the 855 and the 858?
Very little in practice. Both are eight-section E-8 cranes on 32 tonne eight-wheel rigids, both lift over 8 tonnes and both carry up to 5.5 tonnes. The 858 is the newer X-HiPro unit and reaches slightly further. If your lift is inside what they will do, either will handle it and we will send whichever is free.
Is the 855 clean air zone compliant?
Our 32 tonne rigids are Euro VI, which is the standard every UK clean air zone is written around, including Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and the London LEZ. Tell us where the job is when you book and we will confirm what is coming before it leaves the yard.
Can it lift over the cab?
Yes, with continuous slew. As with all of our eight-wheelers the limit is the ground and the radius, not the direction of the lift.
Do you supply the lifting gear?
Chains, slings, spreader beams and lifting frames, yes. Tell us what the load is and where the lifting points are and the driver / operator will bring what the lift needs.
Which rigid do you need?
Describe the job and we will tell you whether it is an 855, an 858 or something else entirely.
