Every vehicle and every trailer we run. All our own, all kept at Norton Street, Miles Platting, which is about two miles from Manchester city centre and a few minutes from the M60.
Why one yard rather than several
Because a single site means one traffic office, one workshop, one set of keys and one person who knows where everything is. When a job changes at eight in the morning — and jobs change at eight in the morning — the vehicle that has to be re-tasked is on the same tarmac as the person making the decision.
A dispersed fleet is more efficient on paper and considerably worse at Tuesdays.
What the space does for customers
It stores things. That turns out to be half the value of the yard. Materials that arrive before a site is ready, cabins between hires, containers waiting on a delivery slot, plant that has come off one job and is going to another next month.
Storage plus transport in one place removes the handover that usually goes wrong — nobody is waiting for a third party's forklift, and nobody is paying twice for the same movement.
What it does for us
Our own maintenance. A fleet that is inspected where it is parked gets looked at more often than a fleet that has to be taken somewhere, and downtime on a booked vehicle is the thing that ruins a customer's day rather than ours.
The Manchester point
A whole fleet starting inside Manchester every morning is why the local work is genuinely local. A job in the city centre does not begin with an hour of empty running, and a lorry that finishes at three can pick something else up on the way back.
